SPF and DMARC record generator

With JavaScript off, here are the starter records for a business using Google Workspace. Swap the include for your provider's from the list below.
Required

Used for the host names and the report address check.

Which company handles your email?Required

The service you log in to for your work inbox. Pick more than one if you use several.

Not sure? The SPF and DMARC checker shows your mail servers (MX). The provider's name is usually in them, for example google.com or outlook.com.

Does anything else send email as your business?Optional

Think newsletters, your online shop, invoices, booking or helpdesk tools, and your website's contact form.

Recommended

Inboxes send daily reports showing who sends email as you. Use a mailbox someone reads, or the address a DMARC report service gives you. Separate several with commas.

Advanced settingsOptionalYour own mail servers, how strict to be, and the DMARC policy. The defaults suit most businesses.

Sender list (SPF)

Only if you run your own mail server or office printer that emails out. One address or range per line.

Only use a value from the service's own help pages.

What should happen to unlisted senders?

Policy (DMARC)

DMARC policy

Go one step at a time: monitor, then quarantine, then reject.

Leave this alone unless subdomains need different rules.

Alignment

Relaxed lets mail from subdomains such as mail.yourbusiness.com count as you. Strict breaks many third-party senders.

Your records

for yourbusiness.com

  • Without a report address you won't see who is sending email as you. Add one in step 4.

SPF record

TXT · @
Type
TXT
Host / Name
@@ means yourbusiness.com itself. Some DNS providers want this field left blank instead.
Value
v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

Lists the services allowed to send email as yourbusiness.com. Inboxes check it to spot email from anywhere else. You can only have one, so this replaces any existing SPF record.

SPF lookups: about 1 of 10

DMARC record

TXT · _dmarc
Type
TXT
Host / Name
_dmarcMost providers add your domain for you. If yours doesn't, use _dmarc.yourbusiness.com.
Value
v=DMARC1; p=none

Tells inboxes what to do when an email uses your name but fails the checks, and where to send reports. With p=none nothing is blocked yet; you're watching first.

These records don't include DKIM. Switch it on in each email service; they give you their own DKIM records to add.

How to publish these records

Run the check again
  1. Log in where your domain's DNS is managed: usually where you bought the domain, your web host or Cloudflare.
  2. Open the DNS settings and look for a TXT record that starts with v=spf1.
  3. If there is one, replace its value with the new SPF record. If not, add a TXT record at @ with it.
  4. Add a TXT record with the host _dmarc and paste the DMARC record.
  5. Save. Changes usually show within an hour but can take up to 48 hours to reach everywhere. Then run the check again.
Never create a second SPF record. Two SPF records break SPF for every email you send.

Not doing this yourself?

Send the records to whoever manages your domain. The link opens a fresh check of yourbusiness.com.

Email it
Where these values come from

Every include comes from the provider's own documentation, checked on the date shown. Services marked "No SPF change needed" say so in their own guides.

About these records

How to read a DMARC record

A DMARC record is a TXT record at _dmarc.yourbusiness.com, for example v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:dmarc@yourbusiness.com.

  • p is the policy: none (monitor), quarantine (spam folder) or reject.
  • rua is where daily reports go. Without it you can't see who sends as you.
  • sp sets the policy for subdomains; adkim and aspf set alignment (relaxed by default).
  • t=y is testing mode in the 2026 standard (RFC 9989). It replaces the old pct setting, which inboxes now ignore.

One SPF record for all your senders

Every service that sends email as you (your inbox provider, newsletters, your shop, your helpdesk) goes into the same SPF record as an include. The generator combines them and keeps any servers your current record already lists, so publishing it replaces your old record without losing a sender.

Publishing your records, answered.

Will changing these records break my email?

Not if you go in the right order. A correct SPF record and a DMARC policy of p=none change nothing about delivery; they just add checks and reports. Problems come from leaving a sending service out of SPF and then jumping straight to p=reject. Start with p=none, read the reports, then tighten.

Where do I find my domain's DNS settings?

Usually where you bought the domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, IONOS and so on), your website host, or Cloudflare if you use it. The menu may be called DNS records, Zone editor or Advanced DNS. Not sure who manages it? Your domain's nameservers tell you, and your web developer or IT provider will know.

Do I add quotation marks or a full host name?

Paste each value exactly as the generator shows it, without extra quotation marks unless your provider asks for them. For the host, most providers want @ (or a blank field) for SPF and _dmarc for DMARC. A few want the full name, such as _dmarc.yourbusiness.com.

How long do DNS changes take?

Usually minutes to an hour. Some providers and cached results take up to 48 hours. Run the checker after an hour; if the old record still shows, wait and try later.

Why start with p=none instead of blocking straight away?

Because most businesses have senders they've forgotten: a website form, an invoicing tool, a newsletter. p=none blocks nothing but sends you reports. After two to four weeks, once every real sender passes, move to p=quarantine and then p=reject. That last step is the one that protects your customers.

Can I have two SPF records if I use two email services?

No. The standard allows one. Two SPF records make every SPF check fail. Combine them into one record with an include: for each service. The generator above does this for you.

Rather we set it up for you?

We'll find every service that sends email as you, publish the right records and take you from monitoring to full protection without blocking your own email.
